Distribution: Occurring chiefly west of the Cascades crest in Washington; Washington to California.

Habitat: Uncommon in coniferous forests at mid-elevations.

Flowers: June-August

Description:
General:

Fleshy myco-heterotrophic herbs with simple, whitish to yellow-brown stems 3-12 cm. tall, glabrous throughout.

Leaves:

Leaves alternate, small, non-green, scale-like, with fringed margins.

Flowers:

Flowers crowded in terminal, spike-like racemes, 8-15 mm. long, each subtended by a slightly-shorter bract; pedicels up to 2 cm. long; sepals 4, distinct, oblong-ovate, half as long as the petals; petals 4, distinct, oblong, 8-10 mm. long, cylindric, yellowish to cream-colored; stamens 8, the anthers without awns; ovary superior.

Fruits:

Capsule berry-like.
